A new training video made by first-year medical students at the Feinberg School of Medicine aims to teach middle school students life saving CPR skills.

The six minute training video was completed in time for the signing of Illinois House Bill 5114, which redefines "safety education" in grades six through eight to include training videos about CPR and AEDs. This fall, volunteers will go to Chicago-area schools to answer student questions about the video.

"Our goal is to increase 'bystander CPR' for people who have sudden cardiac arrest." said Dr. Amer Aldeen, assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at Northwestern and co-founder of CCARES, Chicago Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation Education Service.

Parents, teachers and youth leaders can download the training tool online.
